Helpline Volunteer Pain Concern - Newcastle upon Tyne

Pain Concern is a UK based charity working to help, support and inform people living with pain and healthcare professionals.
Purpose of Volunteer Role
Support user contacts emotionally in a non-directive manner through phone, email and forum based services.
Task Description
• Work a regular shift on the Helpline Caller Channel
• Moderate the Health Unlocked Forum
• Respond to Helpline emails
• Provide a listening-ear to helpline users
• Assist with logging calls
• Analysing service user feedback
• Work closely with the Helpline Volunteer Coordinator
• Participate in on-going training and development
Skills and Personal Qualities
E/D = Essential or Desirable
• Be reliable and friendly with the callers (E)
• Actively listen to the callers (E)
• Empathize with the callers' circumstances (E)
• Qualifications in health care, psychology, medicine or nursing (D)
• Experience in care profession (D)
• Experience with Chronic Pain conditions (D)
• Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills (E)
• Understanding the confidentiality and data protection (E)
• Implement the helpline procedures (E)
• Non-judgemental approach (E)
Availability and location
Minimum commitment of 6 months.
Minimum 3 hour per week.
Home-based role.
A training process must be completed before starting.
