"One in three unemployed young people have thought of suicide" - new Prince's Trust report

New research by the Prince's Trust has found that many young people who are unemployed are more likely to experience mental health problems. 

The Prince's Trust Macquarie Youth Index, from interviews with 2,161 young people aged 16 to 25 years old, found that:

  • 1 in 3 long term unemployed young people have contemplated suicide.
  • 40% of unemployed young people have faced symptoms of mental illness as a result.
  • Long term unemployed young people are more than 2x as likely to feel like they nothing to live for compared to young people in work, education or training.
