Over 22,000 young people treat for self harm in 2012

New figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre have shown an increase in levels of self harm during 2012.

This article by the Telegraph reports that over 22,000 children and young people aged 10 - 19 were treat by hospitals for self harm in 2012 - a rise of 11% compared to the year before.

These figures can be broken down further:

  • 18,037 girls
  • 4,623 boys
  • 5,192 were 10 14 year olds (compared to 4,008 10-14 year olds the year before - an increase of 30%)
