Over the past six years County Durham Library Service has been undertaking a health information role. It began with a joint project funded by Macmillan to develop Health Information Hubs in key libraries and has become an established part of the library offer. Health Zones, as they are now called, are at every library.

County Durham Library Service now has an enhanced mental health reading collection at their Health Zones as part of 'Reading Well - The Reading Agency's Books on Prescription Scheme'.

Anne Davison, Strategic Manager (Libraries), Durham County Council, commented:

"Durham County Libraries are pleased to be part of the new mental health national library offer. Every library across County Durham now has a collection of Reading Well Books on Prescription titles as well as Mood Boosting books.

"We hope that people will pick up a pick-me-up at the library and go on to discover a world of reading and enjoyment."
